Obituary of Richard Bruce Nordstrom
Richard “Dick” Bruce Nordstrom Sr., 73, husband of Mary Patricia Irwin Nordstrom, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 2019.
Mr. Nordstrom was born in Melrose, MA to the late Herbert Richard Nordstrom and Dorothy “Dot” Enid Curtis Nordstrom. He was an alumnus of Mobile College and Clemson University. He taught as an adjunct professor at Greenville Technical College and retired from Greenville County Schools. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy. Dick enjoyed gardening, fishing, outdoors, camping and astronomy. He volunteered as a Guardian Ad Litem for Laurens County and also volunteered at Hillcrest Hospital. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. Dick was absolutely passionate about the “Big Brothers, Big Sisters” program. He credited his big brother Ray Abbott with helping to guide him through life.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Richie Nordstrom and his wife Marybeth; three daughters, Lori Hall and husband James, Amy Lee, and Julie Wilkie and husband Tim; a sister, Carla Nordstrom; four grandchildren, Amythest Lee, Shelby Hall, Andrew Wilkie and Matthew Wilkie; and his beloved dog Bucky and cat Eddie. He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley George Nordstrom.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Fletcher Funeral Service.
Funeral services, with Military Honors, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Michael Bearden and Chaplain Todd Johnson. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
