Obituary of Joe Cecil Parks

J. Cecil Parks, 89, of Scuffletown Road and East Georgia Road in Simpsonville passed away peacefully on Monday, June 28, 2021.
Mr. Parks was born in 1931 to the late Vernon and Laura Parks. Cecil was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Carroll G. Parks and his son, Steve Parks. He is survived by a son, Eddy Parks; two grandchildren, Daniel (Brooke) Parks and Renae (Brett) Sloan; and four great-grandchildren, Cassidy Ann Parks, Jonathan Sloan, Ethan Sloan, and Aiden Sloan. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Parks and Zed Parks.
Mr. Parks was a member of Clear Spring Baptist Church for 68 years and taught the Steadfast Men’s Sunday School Class for 47 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and achieved the rank of Airman Second Class (A2C). Mr. Parks career involved textiles and he retired after 47 years of employment at Steel Heddle. He was also active as treasurer of the Greenville County Farm Bureau and served as a board member for 42 years. Moreover, Mr. Parks ran a full-time row-crop farm – one of the last row crop farms in Greenville County.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday at Fletcher Funeral Service. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Graceland East Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
