Obituary of Donald Ray Smith, Sr.

Donald “Don” Ray Smith, Sr., 84, husband to Barbara West Smith for 64 years, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Mr. Smith was born in Sand Springs, OK to the late Thomas Pryor Smith and Edith Mae Harrell Smith. He served in the US Air Force and retired from the US Navy. He was an alumnus of the University of South Carolina. Don was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and also sang in the choir. He enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends. Don was known to be a hard worker. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Donald “Don” Smith, Jr. and wife Lea, and David Smith and wife Beth; a daughter, Beverly Boggs; four grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Amelia Elder and husband Logan, Bonnie Portillo and husband Dustin, and Zachary Canter; and two great-grandchildren, Obadiah Elder and Olivia Portillo. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roy Smith and James Smith; and two sons-in-law, John Boggs and Dean Mitchell. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be 11 o’clock Tuesday at Pine Grove Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Don Smith, Jr. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
