Obituary of Allen Dale Goodwin

Allen “Dale” Goodwin, 70, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 13th, 2022. Dale was born on March 27th, 1952 in Simpsonville to the late Horace and Mary Goodwin. His childhood consisted of a simple, but hard-working lifestyle, where he helped with farming and his father’s small business. Dale was a 1970 graduate of Hillcrest High School. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Greenville Technical College, where he excelled in the hands-on environment. Dale went on to inherit his father’s business, Goodwin TV Repair. On December 4th, 1974, Dale married Candis Ann Pardue. Their relationship was literally “forged by fire” as their home and possessions were lost to a fire just as they were starting their lives together. However, Dale and Candis turned hardship into helping others, by wanting to establish firefighting services for their rural community. After being on the Simpsonville Fire Department for 5 years, Dale’s hard work paid off when East Simpsonville Fire Department opened in 1981 to serve the people living out in the country. Dale was instrumental as a founder, with the department’s first trucks being parked in his own yard and Candis answering emergency calls on the house phone. He helped the department grow into what is now Clear Spring Fire & Rescue. Dale later went on to serve with Durbin Creek Fire Department until his death. Dale was also a longtime member of the Masons, specifically Crescent Lodge #245 AFM, where he also served as a Master. Over the years, Dale had many roles: TV repairman, AV Tech, Truck Driver, Career Firefighter, Volunteer Firefighter, and Mason. However, his most important roles were that of being a husband, father, friend, mentor, inspiration, and all-around good man. Dale was faithfully married to Candis until her death from COVID in 2021. He was a supportive and caring father for his daughters, Sheila and Casey; raising them with the influence of Christ’s love. Dale always tried to make the best out of any situation. He never met a stranger and made jokes whenever he had the chance. Dale most enjoyed the simple things, like the kind of hotdog that’s only found at racetracks and dragstrips, a cold RC Cola and Moon-Pie, and relaxing in the sun at his favorite place, Edisto Beach. Surviving are his two daughters, Sheila and Casey, as well as the 2 cats he always claimed to not like, Rose and Rosemary. He is also survived by a brother, Randy. Dale was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Candis. He was also predeceased by his parents Horace and Mary Goodwin, as well as three brothers: Curran, Dwayne Keith, and Carroll. A celebration of Dale’s life will be at 4 o’clock Friday, July 22nd at the Youngs Community Center (Youngs Schoolhouse) in Gray Court.
