We've all heard the phrase that "God works in mysterious ways." I want to share three wonderful illustrations which prove just that. After hearing mother was on crisis hospice, Jim drove down from GA on Thursday. He found her as we described, non-responsive, eyes closed. The next morning she miraculously greeted us with a "Good morning!" Jim and I exchanged "I love yous" and she responded "I love you more." Shortly after, she resumed her slumber. What a blessing! Sunday, after preaching that morning, Jim felt led to make another trip down to be with not only her, but with me, in such a difficult time. For several days, I had been singing to her and sharing even better gospel music from my phone, placed close to her ear. Monday morning, while playing various songs and hymns, Jim suggested we play "The Holy City" again. This was her all time favorite, which she had sung many times at various churches in her younger years. While listening to this song, and keeping time with her toes, she took her final breath. We were in awe of God's beautiful timing. Later in the day we knew we wanted to pick out three of her favorite hymns for her service. I thought to myself, "How in the world am I going to pick three out of hundreds?" As it turns out, she and God had already worked that out! As I thumbed through her favorite hymn book, there were exactly three ear marked in mother's handwriting, "One of my favorites." It couldn't have been easier! But again, why should we be surprised? God most definitely works for our good! Mother was truly an inspiration to me, being such a dedicated, godly woman! I will miss her tremendously...she was not only my mother, but my best friend for many, many years.
