Obituary of Sarah Head Carter
Please share a memory of Sarah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sarah “Sally” Head Carter, wife of Richard “Dick” Carter for 63 years, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 27, 2022.
Mrs. Carter was born on March 08, 1938 in Miami, FL to the late Philip Head and Glennis Hancock. Sally was devoted to her family and loved being a wife, mother and grandmother to her grandchildren.
In her younger years, Sally was an accomplished equestrian rider, winning many competitions in the southeast. Later, she enjoyed participating in dog shows with her Irish Setters.
Sally was a member of Eastside Presbyterian Church (formerly Shannon Forest Presbyterian Church). She enjoyed planning, overseeing and cooking the Wednesday night meal for 20 plus years, many times serving over 150 people. She was a phenomenal cook and exceptional hostess. She enjoyed traveling across the country and venturing to unique restaurants, where she enjoyed various culinary cuisines.
Sally had a deep and secure faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and found great joy in studying her Bible, including reading through it each year for over 20 years. She loved memorizing many passages, which she was able to recall when facing difficult times. Her strong faith allowed her to face her rheumatoid arthritis during the past 40 years, without complaint, knowing that God had a greater plan for using it as part of her testimony.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Leslie Phillips (Michael); two sons, Stewart Carter (Debra) and Martin Carter (Sherry); seven grandchildren, Melissa Parks, Rebecca Ferguson (Danny), Megan Anderson (Patrick), Phillip Carter, Matthew Carter, Alex Carter and Andrew Carter; and five great-grandchildren, Micheila, Cameron, Danielle, Benjamin and Juniper.
The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 am Saturday, December 3rd at Eastside Presbyterian Church located at 830 Garlington Road, Greenville, SC, followed by
A Celebration of Sally’s Life at 11:00 am at Eastside Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Mark Auffarth. A private burial will follow at Graceland East Memorial Park.
