Randy was a great person to be around. We shared classes at Mauldin high school. Great sense of humor and always kind.
My condolences to his family.

We met Randy when he came to Mandeville, Jamaica in early 1995 to serve at the Jamaica Deaf Village (where we were) for 1 1/2 years. His job description was oversight of U.S. church groups in building residences for the deaf that would be joining us eventually, but what our family especially remembers about him was his friendship with us. Our setting was beautiful among the central hills of Jamaica, but a little bit lonely without any homes nearby. Randy came and quietly added times of laughter, fun and caring generosity to our lives! He was over at our house often for a meal or a movie. Our four girls who were at that time just 9 - 16 years old loved having Randy there; he would talk to them and listen well when they shared their struggles with him. Eventually, Randy became like an uncle to them, and you could find some or all the girls at his apartment playing cards or board games with him after school.
It was a sad day when Randy left us; we had all come to love and appreciate him for his kindness and caring heart. But, it wasn't to be the last of our enjoying him. Years later when we moved to the U.S. and bought our first home, who should show up to help us paint our interior walls but Randy! It was so good to see him, catch up and spend time with him over a couple days while he helped us; he had such a helpful, giving spirit.
Eventually my husband and I moved back overseas, and Randy began generously helping with our financial support. Most recently, in the fall of 2018, Randy came through our area, and we got to spend two different days with him; most of us were able to be there to enjoy his visit and recounting memories together. With this visit, he also brought his dream for a farm, a dream which we shared, too, and together we had a lot of fun considering the possibility of what might happen someday. After all, who knows what God might have ahead for any of us! I believe Randy is enjoying so much more now than he ever could have imagined with us that day - or any day. I believe he is with the One who has always known him and loved him because Randy trusted in Jesus' work on the cross for him.
Randy was God's gift to us of caring friendship and generosity over the years - and we look forward to seeing him again!

Randy was a great friend and co-worker. He joined us in '95 and did an amazing job of leading volunteer work groups in the construction of the Jamaica Deaf Village. All the groups appreciated his thoroughness to see a job "well done". His quiet humor and laugh were infectious. I really appreciated his friendliness and determination to see his Lord honored by his quality of workmanship. Our four young daughters affectionately named him "Sir Randall of the Helshire" and loved him. We'll miss you, brother.

Randy was brilliant at what he did , “ construction rehab.” All of his finished projects were truly works of art. I will miss not being able to consult with him.
