Obituary of LeNora Freeman McCraw

LeNora Freeman McCraw, 87, of Simpsonville, was reunited with her Heavenly family on Friday, July 14, 2023. She was born at home in Liberty, South Carolina on August 9, 1935 to the late Wilton T. “Red” Freeman and Ethel Pauline Lesley Freeman. Devoted and loving wife, Mom, and Nanny, Nora was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Kethel McCraw. She’s survived by her children Mack McCraw, Donna Wilson (Chuck), and Pam Scott (Joe); grandchildren, Julie Addis (Joel), Johnathon Wheatley, and Pamela Brown (Jon); and great-grandchildren, Isabella, Andrew, Natalie, Nora, Keegan, and Emerald. As the fifth of 12 children, Nora loved her siblings and their families. She never missed an opportunity to attend a Freeman family reunion over the years. Survived by her brother Rodney Freeman and sisters Margie Jones, Joan Perzak, Carol Satterfield; her sister-in-law Margie Gail Fuller; a very special niece, Sonya Smith-McLeary; and many other cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by brothers Herbert Freeman, Lesley Freeman and Clayton Freeman, and by her sisters Thelma Smith, Cody Davis, Evelyn Davis Taylor, and Myra Smith. She was a Certified Professional Insurance Woman (CPIW) and retired from Robinson Insurance of New Bern, North Carolina. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where she and John square danced for many years and was a member of their Ruth Circle. She was also mentor/coach for the Junior Bowling League. During her retirement, Nora enjoyed traveling whenever she could whether it was a long weekend at the beach, a road trip across the country to take a cruise to Alaska, a flight to New York City for a good broadway show, or her most recent “bucket list” trip to Ireland with her daughter, Donna, just a few years ago. As an avid bridge player, she led a bridge club for several years at the Mauldin Senior Center. She volunteered as an advocate for children through Greenville’s Guardian Ad Litem program. She was also a talented artist, enjoyed painting and even took a few art classes at Greenville Technical College. Her artistic skills further shined through her knitting/crocheting. Nora would spend months each year knitting numerous sets of beautiful and unique doll clothes for donation to the children at Safe Harbor during Christmastime. When at home, you could find Nora in the kitchen baking a delicious dessert, working a jigsaw puzzle, or cheering on her Clemson Tigers! She was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her every day. We will honor Nora with a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, July 18th at Salem United Methodist Church with service beginning at 11:00 a.m. and visitation immediately following. The service will be officiated by Reverend Howard Addis along with Pastor Eric McKee, Sr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 2700 White Horse Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29611.
