Obituary of Frank Hickson Smith, Jr.

Frank Hickson Smith Jr., 79, moved from this life to much higher things on Monday, June 26, 2023. Frank Jr. was born to Frank Hickson Smith and Nelle Roper Smith on July 30, 1943 and was a lifelong South Carolinian. Frank attended Furman University and was perhaps best known for his long tenure as branch manager of the old American Federal on Main Street in Simpsonville. Outside of his knowledge of the banking world, Frank was also quite a bible scholar and taught Sunday School for years at Simpsonville First Baptist Church, where he taught with rare passion, insight, and tremendous depth. Frank was predeceased by his wife Elaine in 2009. Surviving is his son, Elliott Smith, his daughter-in-law, Jeanette Johnson-Watts, and his granddaughter, Amara Watts. Frank was a remarkable man and a truly amazing human being. Frank loved people with a depth seldom seen and never expected anything of anyone. He was kind, compassionate, and wise, and his humor and storytelling abilities were second to none. Outside of his friends and family, Frank also loved golf, classical music, and trips to Yosemite National Park. Words cannot describe the impact that Frank's loss has had and will continue to have on those that knew and loved him, but one thing is certain: the world is a greater and more beautiful place because of him. Frank's memorial service will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, located at 1021 Hudson Road, on Saturday, July 29 at 4 pm. Receiving of friends will begin, at the same location, at 3 pm.
