Obituary of Carole Kaufmann
CAROLE PFISTER KAUFMANN, 89, of Simpsonville, SC (formerly Dix Hills, NY), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Kaufmann was born in Queens, NY to the late Frederick Pfister and Christina Schaffer Pfister. After meeting and marrying her husband, Alfred Kaufmann, they initially settled in Valley Stream, NY and then later moved to Dix Hills, NY where they raised their three children. She was the quintessential homemaker, cook, baker and hostess, and entertained friends and family whenever possible. Her career spanned 20+ years as a secretary in the Half Hollow Hills School District in New York. When not working and caring for her family, Carole was an avid reader and enjoyed a myriad of crafts such as card-making, floral-arranging, sewing, ceramics and furniture painting, as well as travelling with friends throughout North America and Europe. She also liked to dabble in the penny stocks (unbeknownst to her husband) and when she retired, her efforts proved to be quite successful. In 1993, she and Al moved to Simpsonville, SC and joined Holy Cross Episcopal Church where they have been active members for the past 30 years. Wherever there was a need, Carole was there with a helping hand. One of the ministries most cherished by Carole was the Daughters of the King Ministry (dedicated to prayer and service). She also volunteered with the Literacy Program in Simpsonville where she helped youngsters improve their reading skills. Carole was a breast-cancer survivor and celebrated overcoming this battle as a participant in the 2012 Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk in Tampa FL. She welcomed & congratulated walk participants as they crossed the finish line and was honored on-stage for her courage, before an audience of 1000s of people.
Carole is survived by her husband of 68 years, Alfred; children – Karen Scola (Lou), Steve Kaufmann (Janet), and Christine Lisi (Stephen, deceased); 5 grandchildren – Jennifer Ginn, Kevin Scola, Steven Kaufmann Jr. (Amanda), Christopher Kaufmann (Melanie) and Jonathan Lisi; and 4 great grandchildren -- Michael Ginn, Matthew Ginn, Riley Kaufmann and Reese Kaufmann. She was predeceased by her brother, Frederick Pfister and great-granddaughter, Leighton Kaufmann.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 16th at 1:00 pm at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 205 E. College St., Simpsonville, SC. Visitation with family and a reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carole’s honor/memory can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation at Komen.org OR the Daughters of the King Ministry at Holy Cross Episcopal Church.
