Obituary of Grady Jones

Grady Melvin Jones, 95, husband of Mary Rose Pou Jones for 66 years, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

Mr. Jones was born in Simpsonville to the late Grover Cleveland Jones and Pallie Estelle Thackston Jones.  He was a member of Clear Spring Baptist Church, where he formerly served as deacon, chairman of the deacon board, and Sunday School teacher and superintendent. 

Grady’s calling was to be a farmer.  As owner of Jones Farm, he and his son farmed as many as 500 acres, raising cotton, corn, soybeans, and grain.  He served as director and president of Greenville County Farm Bureau and state director of SC Farm Bureau.  He served on the Greenville county and SC state committees of the Farm Service Agency (formerly the ASCS).  Grady also worked as finish carpenter in home construction and was a Clemson Tiger fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, Richard Jones with wife Karen.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Jones and Alvin Jones; and a sister, Rhoda Walker.

A Celebration of Grady’s Life will be at 1 o’clock Monday at Clear Spring Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park.
