Obituary of Yan Frederick De Gialluly

Yan Frederick De Gialluly, 51, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Yan was born in San Francisco, CA on November 5,1971 to the late Max Andre De Gialluly and Anthonie Allen De Gialluly. Family was everything to Yan and he was their everything.  Yan moved to Boulder, CO with his mother and sister as a teenager and remained there throughout the early 2000's. This is where he met Mimi, and their sweet friendship that had bloomed in early 2000 would turn into becoming the love of his life years later.

He was a passionate foodie and chef by trade throughout his time in Boulder and even dabbled in acting in New Orleans as an extra for various movies filmed in the Big Easy.  Yan moved to Greenville, SC to pursue a career change and was eventually reunited with his old friend from Boulder.  Yan's love of family extended deeply to the entire Yarborough family when he and Mimi were reunited. Not only did he show his extreme dedication to Mimi, Rebecca and Mia, he spent as much time with Dan and Millie as he could, always cooking up something delicious during Lake Lure summer get-togethers, Christmas brunch and Thanksgiving.

Yan "dove deep" in all aspects of his life. He cared about connection and conversation. He was thoughtful, wise, loving, dedicated and loved to have a damn good time.  This love was not just something he showed on special occasions. It was literally the backbone of his everyday life with Mimi and her girls. They loved family movie nights, grilling out with friends, weekend getaways, blasting music, cars and fashion. He was a romantic at heart, faithful to Wednesday date nights, holding hands, taking walks in their neighborhood and celebrating "heart days". In fact, he and Mimi were having a dance party while making dinner together just hours before he passed away.

Yan enjoyed nature especially while spending time outdoors with their precious dog, Zholene.  He lived life to the fullest with his family and friends. He was the life of the party and always enjoyed making everyone laugh. The last picture taken of Yan was actually of Mimi’s grandkids and he was caught photobombing it!  Yan never missed his birthday polar plunge at Lake Lure. The polar plunge will be celebrated at his memorial service once again this year. Details will be announced soon.

Surviving are his fiancé, Mary Elizabeth "Mimi" Yarborough Webb, Mimi’s daughters Rebecca and Mia Webb, all of the home; Mimi’s mother, Millie Yarborough, her sisters Amy Kawar and Caroline Fowler, her brother Daniel Yarborough, Yan’s sister, Dominique De Gialluly of Colorado, Mimi’s nieces and nephews as well as close family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and Mimi’s father, Dan Yarborough, whom he adored.
