Obituary of Rev. John E Garland

Rev. John E. Garland, 65, husband of Juanita Henderson Garland for 41 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 1, 2017.

Rev. Garland was born in Beaufort, SC, to Mickie Henry Garland and the late Bob Garland.  He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.  During his junior year at Clemson University, and as a result of a tract given to him and the working of the Holy Spirit in his heart, John gave his heart and life to the Lord Jesus Christ.  His two goals in life since then have been to serve the Lord by telling other people how they can have their sins forgiven and know they are going to Heaven, and to get to Heaven himself!

After marrying Juanita in 1975, John fulfilled his desire to tell others about Jesus by going to Brazil under the auspices of Gospel Fellowship Association Mission.  John and Juanita have been missionaries in Brazil since 1978, where he founded and pastored the Igreja Batista Fundamental de Taguatinga until September 2016, when they returned to the U.S. on furlough.  During this furlough, John realized his second goal…that of going to Heaven! 

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are four daughters, Debra Cruz, Rachel Divino and husband Isaias, Krista Hilgeman and husband Brandon, and Beth Silli and husband Danilo; a brother, Mike Garland and wife Lynn; and six grandchildren.

A Celebration of John’s home going will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Greg Ince and Rev. Mark Batory.
