Obituary of Ethel Maze
Ethel Mae Manley Maze
(July 23, 1934 – November 17, 2023
Ethel Mae Manley Maze, 89, of Mauldin, SC departed this earthly life on Friday, November 17, 2023 and reached her final destination, the Kingdom of God and is in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
Ethel was born in Greenville, SC on July 23,1934 to the late Buster J. Manley and Nellie L. Hughes Manley. She grew up in the Dunean community, just one street over from Tremont Avenue Church of God which she attended throughout her life, making many life-long friends still loyal to this day.
Tremont is also where she met R.V. (Rudolph) Maze, the love of her life and husband for 65 years until his passing on January 9, 2023.
Ethel lived her life serving others. She said that was her “calling”, which she answered with a servant’s heart and gave all that she had. She provided transportation to church and doctor’s appointments, ran errands, cleaned houses, and cooked meals for those in need. She never complained, boasted, or even spoke of her deeds. It was just all in a day’s work in her life’s mission.
She was a breast cancer survivor and a caregiver for her Mother and sister during their battles with the disease; she was a dependable, loyal, faithful friend, and prayer warrior. She was a great cook and an amazing baker, widely known for her cakes, marshmallow fudge brownies, and trays of assorted desserts around the holidays. She loved baking for others; whether it was a special day or just to brighten someone’s day and let them know she was thinking about them.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, R.V. Maze and her older sister Mary Bennett, aka “Thelma” the trusty sidekick of “Thelma and Louise of Greenville.”
She is survived by a son, Rudolph Vinson Maze (Connie); daughter, Tammy Maze-Derfler (Terrence); granddaughter, Samantha Shannon Davis (Cody); brothers, Richard Earl Manley and Ronnie Jerry Manley.
Services will be held Friday, November 24, 2023 at Mauldin Church of God, 411 East Butler Rd, Mauldin, SC 29662. Visitation from 10:30 am – 11:45 am. Service at 12:00 pm and burial following at Graceland Cemetery West, 4814 White Horse Rd, Greenville, SC 29611.
