Obituary of Preston Barbrey
Alvin Preston Barbrey, 90, husband of Lila Estelle “Patsy” Bridges Barbrey for 73 years, went to be the Lord on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
Mr. Barbrey was born in Simpsonville to the late Eugene Joe Barbrey and Maude Cheek Barbrey. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He was a former member of Carolina Springs Golf Club and was particularly proud of recording two hole-in-ones over his years of play. Preston was retired from Reliance Electric. He was a huge sports fan – especially of the USC Gamecocks and the Atlanta Braves – and played baseball with the Woodside Mills Little Yankees in the Textile League. One of Preston and Patsy’s greatest joys was the travels over the country in their motorhome.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Al Barbrey; a daughter, Pam Brennan with husband Jimmy; two grandchildren, Nye Brennan with wife Margaret, and Bergan Fudger with husband Trey; and five great-grandchildren, Isora, Elisa, Brennan, Holden and Weston. He was predeceased by two brothers, Earl Barbrey and Harry Barbrey; and a sister, Ella Ruth Dawson.
A Celebration of Preston’s Life will be 1 o’clock Tuesday at Fletcher Funeral Service. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private in Simpsonville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605; or to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
