I knew Bryan when we were preschoolers and I lived next door to his grandparents on South Lakeland Drive in North Charleston. Though our friendship was brief and we lost touch after my family moved back to Mississippi, Bryan was one of my earliest childhood friends and I have great memories of him from our childhood. I’m deeply sorry to hear about his passing. I’m not surprised to read about his astounding accomplishments and know that his untimely passing must be most difficult for his family and all those who were blessed to know him. I send heartfelt condolences and prayers for his family, friends, colleagues, students and all those who knew and love him. May Bryan eternally rest in peace, with the perpetual light of Christ shining upon him. Lord, may Your loving care surround his family and bring them peace. Help them to feel Your presence and find solace in Your word. Be their source of strength and guide them through their path of grief. Amen
Until we meet again in eternity my friend.
Your childhood friend,
Nancy Buckheister

All of the Liberty marching band miss Bryan Bone. This is my first year in the Marching band. I didn't even get two months with Bone. Although we miss him, we are doing this whole marching season to honor Bryan Bone.

I had only known Mr. Bone for 2-3 years but, within that time he was the best director I had ever met. He may not know it but he's the main reason I stayed in marching band. He told some of the other directors about how much potential I had on saxophone and on a bass drum and when I found out he said that, it made me want to strive to be the best I can. He wasn't just a another band director to me, he was a friend. May he rest in piece. Love you Mr. Bone.

I've known Bryan Bone since I was in 8th grade (2016). Since we met I have shared some genuine memories with him. Once I hit junior and senior year of high school, he became a father figure and a friend to me and more than just a band director. I will always cherish those memories with him and I hope to see him in heaven one day.

Bryan was like a brother to me, and he had a huge influence on the trajectory of my life. I wasn't involved in church until he invited me to Youth Group at Summerville Baptist Church. I never sang a note until he encouraged me to join the youth choir. When I struggled on trumpet he encouraged me to switch to French Horn, and I soon became section leader and even received a music scholarship to CSU. I became an ordained minister and served churches all over the country, and it all started when Bryan invited a pudgy kid he called Keebler to join his church pep band. All my best to his family and loved ones. I Praise God for Bryan, a good and faithful servant of our Lord.

It’s difficult to even know where to start. I have known Bryan in many different facets of life. But since band and the love for music brought us together first , I’ll start there.
Bryan was introduced to me first at USC , as a candidate for membership in our national honorary band fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi. It was my sophomore year so he would be in the first pledge class that I got to see as a Brother. He was one of many in the pledge class of Fall 1990, and he quickly became one to stand out in his own way. Humorously, he stood out at first because we had two “Bryan Bones” only they spelled their names differently. But we saw very quickly how he stood out with his very quick wit and humor , and his passion for music. So I knew him first as my Brother and enjoyed pursuing projects in the fraternity and our love for band.
Somewhere in that mix, he met a young girl in the flag line at USC… my younger sister, Shanna. When I realized their friendship had taken on more meaning , I was even then thinking this would be an excellent guy for my sister because I had already witnessed his work ethic, his kindness , maturity and he was a complete gentlemen, so I already knew she would be in good hands!
Fast forward , and of course he did just that and became part of a family so I was blessed to call him Brother in Law. I remember thinking that he and Shanna were perfect for each other and I could not have been happier! I wondered if he knew if he knew what he had gotten into with inheriting the rest of our McCoy clan and worried we would drive him crazy but Bryan , , like he did with everything , adapted and brought so much love and compassion to this family and everyone in it and never missed an opportunity to show his support in everything we did or everything we were going through , … through the good and the bad.
He was the brother I never had.
And now , in addition to being the supreme dad he was two wonderful boye , Dawson and Caden…..and uncle to my other nephew Jaylon … he was also the uncle to my sons , who were both in band as well. I know my influence was part of that of course, but I certainly know how that Uncle Bryan was a huge influence on them as well. My youngest son , Carson , competed at the high school level and now is approaching his third year on USC’s Drumline. My oldest son, Connor , was a percussionist all through middle school and even when he turned to do athletics in high school he still took on teaching himself guitar. I know that Bryan’s influence was definitely a great part of that.
One of my favorite memories to me and my family , was every Spring , to be at someone’s birthday party in the family or vacation, or just hanging out at one of our houses and Bryan would pull out his lap top and go over ideas he had about the “next show “. It was all so exciting to hear his passion and incredible creativity as he showed us his
Ideas and then just magnificent to see them all come to life the next fall , leading to championships and accolades galore. He was a genius !
For years we have watched him excel in the world of music, on both small and big stages , fostering friendships and molding young minds in such a positive manner that they all would all either excel in the music world themselves , or take what they learned from him about discipline , creativity and passion and apply it to all walks of life. He had that effect on everyone.
“You will be greatly missed"” … a complete understatement of the void that’s left with out THE Bryan Bone standing on a tower looking over a practice field or at the podium on stage directing or cracking jokes. There will always be a void. But we all know that a void was filled immediately for a position on the field in heaven that only he could fill for God’s brass section and one day we have the assurance of joining him! Until then my friend , you served our KKPsi motto, “Strive for the Highest” very well, but more importantly God has looked at your life and legacy here and said “ job well done , good and faithful servant!”
I love you Bryan. AEA
