Obituary of Johnnie Martin

Please share a memory of Johnnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Johnnie Cassius Martin, 84, husband of Elwanda Mae Meadows Martin for 60 years, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 24, 2024.

Mr. Martin was born in Alleghany County, VA to the late Vernon Bishop Martin and Leona Ellen Neel Martin.  He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC and a veteran of the US Army.  He was a graduate of Al Somers Umpire School and a longtime official of the Virginia High School League.  Johnnie was a graduate of the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and a retiree of Mead Westvaco.  He was a fan of the VA Tech Hokies and the NY Yankees.  Johnnie took his role as provider for his family seriously.  He was a wonderful husband, father, PawPaw and uncle.  He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Laura Dunlap (husband Dave), two sons, Michael Martin (wife Cathy), and Dale Martin; a sister, Darlene Wilcher; two grandsons, Mason Martin and Benjamin Dunlap; two sisters-in-law, Alice White (husband Glen) and Ermine Meadows; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved family at Faith Baptist Church.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Morris “Buddy” Martin and Darrell Martin; and two sisters, Juanita Simpson and Dianne Thompson.

At 11 o'clock Thursday June 27th, the family will receive friends for one hour at Faith Baptist Church.  A Celebration of Johnnie’s Life, with Military Honors, will follow at 12 o’clock Thursday at Faith Baptist Church.   Burial will be at MJ "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson, SC.

Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 906 SC Hwy 14, Simpsonville, SC 29681; or to Agape Care South Carolina, HPCF, P.O. Box 151, Drayton, SC 29333.
