Obituary of Buford Webb Blanton, Jr.

Buford W. “Boots” Blanton took his final flight from earth on July 27, 2017 and landed safely in Heaven to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He leaves behind, for the time being, the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Gail McCoig Blanton. Also a son, Jeffrey David Blanton; daughter Lisa B. Yauilla (Nik); granddaughters, Ashley Rye Yauilla and Lauren Y. Hallam. Also surviving, daughter Susan, her children and grandchildren; and a brother Robert A. Blanton. Born in Gastonia, NC, he was predeceased there by Buford Blanton, Sr. and Naomi Blanton. He also leaves in-laws whom he considered his own siblings: Marjorie Whitesides and Barry and Sandi McCoig.

Boots had a humble, quiet and kind spirit but could not be moved from his beliefs in integrity, dependability, determination and hard work. He drew these from his foundation of Christian faith and study of the scriptures. Almighty God was, and is, the most important thing in his life. He loved the church and served in many different leadership positions, including deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church Simpsonville, Kingdom Seekers C-4 class, and the Intercessory Prayer Ministry. He loved to help others and was a generous man with a zest for life and subtle sense of humor.

He was the owner and general manager of Matrix Machining, Inc., until his retirement in 2005.

For almost 70 years he was an avid fan of full-size and radio controlled model aircraft. He belonged to various model airplane clubs, was president of 2 and was an expert pilot, skilled builder and patient mentor. Boots loved music, especially classical and blues. He enjoyed boating, sailing, water skiing, fishing, archery, World War II aircraft and history, and German Shepherds.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at First Baptist Church Simpsonville, on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 2 pm . The family will receive friends immediately following. Burial will be private. Please omit flowers at home or church. Memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Miracle Hill Ministries. Fletcher Funeral Service is assisting the family.
