Obituary of Eleanor Watson Griffith
Eleanor Watson Griffith, 97, of Simpsonville, passed away on Monday January 8, 2018. Born in Easley, SC on May 7, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Vernon T. and Mamie Stancill Watson and the wife of the late Walter Jackson “Jack” Griffith. She was a long time member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church, where she served in the nursery for many years. She loved to sew, knit, and crotchet, and enjoyed working in her garden and canning vegetables.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Mary Hinson (Wayne) of Waynesville, NC and Wanda Cannady (Richard) of Simpsonville; sisters, Winifred Bruce of Aiken, SC and Sarah Tripp of Taylors; four grandchildren, John Elmore, Jr.(Kay), Jackie Mathis (Stewart), Amanda Orzechowski, and Ricky Cannady; and four great-grandchildren, JC Elmore, III, Hannah Elmore, Regan Orzechowski, and Samantha Mathis.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by her brother, Arvyn Bruce Watson.
The funeral service for Mrs. Griffith will be held at 2pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. John C. Elmore, Jr. and Rev. David Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, from 1:00-1:45pm. Interment will follow in Rocky Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Rocky Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1801 Woodruff Road, Greenville, SC 29607.
