Obituary of Betty Irvin

Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Betty Irvin, 72, of Greenville, SC (formerly of Lock Haven, PA) passed away on the evening of September 22, 2019 peacefully.  She was born to the late Ralph and Helen Miller of Lock Haven.  Betty graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1965 and obtained her Cosmetology License in 1979.

Betty was married in 1965 for 34 years to the late Malcom LeeRoy Irvin. She is survived by three children: Lisa White of Lock Haven; Teresa Irvin McCurdy and husband Daniel of New Cumberland, PA; and LeeRoy Irvin and wife Ashley of Greer, SC.  She was a proud grandmother of Dustin Copenhaver and wife Stephanie (Pittsburgh, PA), Stephanie Horton and husband Van (Anchorage, AK) and Emma Rose & Edie Irvin (Greer) and a great Grammy of Edward (Jaime) Copenhaver.  Three of her four siblings survived her: Shirley Hodawanec, Birdsboro; Ralph F. Miller, Jr., McElhattan; & Kenneth L. Miller, Hershey; and predeceased Henry “Chirp” Miller, Lock Haven.

Betty was a devoted mother, friend, colleague and witness of Christ.  She was rich in love by family & friends, passionate about gardening, holistic eating & medicine, and most of all religion. She not only helped people to be beautiful on the inside by teaching the gospel, but also the outside with her own beauty salon (Hair Flair) and selling Mary Kay.  After moving to Greenville, she focused on healing people through God’s word and healthy eating.  At Gardner’s & Earth Fare she educated customers on healthy eating while working in the deli. Many will remember her from serving samples and friendly hospitality at Sam’s & Costco’s.

As a mother she wore many hats: a caregiver, teacher, cook, seamstress, gardener, nurse and above all, a preacher to ensure her kids would join her in Heaven.  Although she lost her fight with esophageal cancer, she never lost her deep faith in God and Jesus.  She found Jesus at the age of 5 and has been a witness for him all her life. She worshiped at Grace Church on Pelham Road, Greer. Those who knew her may say “There she goes” from earth, but those who already went before her are saying “Here she comes.”

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 27th at 4 p.m. at the Grace Church, 2801 Pelham Rd, Greenville, SC.  In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks for donations in support of the Cancer Society of Greenville, SC (www.cancersocietygc.org or 113 Mills Avenue, Greenville, SC 29605).  She will be laid to rest at the Graceland Eastside Cemetery in Simpsonville, SC.
