Heyward was like family to me. He shoed my mom's horses since I was little. I always looked forward to the next time he came by to shoe again. I always enjoyed the times he came by. As I got older I sometimes got to help bail hay. It was in his fields o first started to learn to drive. I always had fun on the trail rides. You could always count on Heyward being there. He always had the best campfire and food. We had dinner with Heyward and his family many of times. To me he was as much family as my uncles are. I will always treasure my memories with Heyward whether it him shoeing our horses, bailing hay, or trail riding. I will always miss the sounds of his hammering on the anvil, or the sounds of tools from his toolbox when shoeing, for me it was the sound of a happy childhood.

Heywood was our Pherrier. My wife, Darlene really Loved Heywood. Their love for animals was what really connected them. We always loved the “ Carolina Purple” Tomatoes he would share with us. We always call him the reverend Mr. Black ! He would always say he wasn’t no darn Reverend , with a laugh !!So from Old Smokey and Whisky Jack
God speed my friend !

To the Black family,
Even though I hadn’t seen Mr. Heyward in a long time, he was like my brother Neddy. You could go for years, but it seemed like months since you had seen him. I am so sorry for your loss. We all know that Neddy & Mr Heyward are riding across the hills of heaven even as we grieve. Personally, I’m laughing as I imagine the amount of bs those 2 are spreading. I pray that God will ease your pain and dry your tears. With much love and many hugs,
Dot Stoddard Turner

Heyward was definitely one of a kind. He was so good to us when we first moved to GreenPond, always offering to help us out and offering his own farming equipment for us to use when we didn’t have our own. Larry always enjoyed their talks whether it was on the phone or sitting on the front porch. He was a good friend to a lot of people and will be greatly missed. Take comfort in knowing that he lived a happy and full life and now he is in a beautiful place with no more suffering.
Our deepest sympathies
Charity and Larry

Kathy,
I don’t know if you remember me but I’m Bill Riddle’s oldest daughter Kim. I just wanted to tell you I am so sorry to hear about Mr Hayward. He was one of a kind. I was so saddened to hear of his passing but couldn’t help but smile thinking of Dad greeting him into Heaven. Praying for you all during this time.

Heyward Invited Mal & I to our first trail ride we about 12 years old plus we would spend the night before the ride at Heyward & Patsy house and had a beautiful horse farm. The best farrier and toughest cowboy ever, there was not a horse he couldn’t shoe. He was the hardest working man I know. Heyward brought over to me a Palomino mare to train her for him and he was very pleased from what I had accomplished with the mare. The best trail rides ever with Heyward and friends. My praying for family

Heyward was a good neighbor and a good man. Was always willing to lend a helping hand and didn't expect anyting in return. Enjoyed conversations with him about whatever we talked about that particular day. John Nemeth

I first met Heyward & Kathy at Loretta Lynn’s ranch . He was one of the trail bosses . Always had a smile & a big warm hug for you ! Looked forward to them pulling in so I could get my hug . Full of laughter & like to tease me about my big bay roan . Last ride I was on with him he laughed so hard a me trying to get on my horse & this was my smaller one ! Not another cowboy like him - I will really miss him & the trails won’t be the same . Prayers to you Kathy & all his family for comfort , peace & understanding !
