Obituary of Willis Bascom McLemore

Willis Bascom McLemore, 95, husband of the late Theretha Neel McLemore, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2020. Mr. McLemore was born in Soso, MS to the late Zachary Taylor McLemore and Ursula Sumrall McLemore. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a medical Corpman. He received his training at Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, GA and completed his Medical Corp training at Camp Barclay in Texas. He later retired from Gannett Publishing. He was a lifetime member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher, board member, and Sunday School Teacher. He authored a history of the church and enjoyed story-telling. Willis was a wise man who enjoyed traveling, golf, woodworking, gardening, and reading his bible. He was a member of Gideons International, the Civitans, and American Legion Post #7 in Gainesville, GA. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Wilfried Muylle, and Debbie and Dr. Stephen Huch; five grandsons, Todd Black and wife Nicole, Andy Black and wife Mandy, Taylor Leggett and wife Kate, Robert Leggett and wife Carra, and Jonathan Leggett; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Terry McLemore; three brothers and five sisters.
