Robert Blackwell posted a condolence

I'm Bobby Blackwell from Simpsonville. I did 30 years with the US Navy. My favorite memory of Phil was, while I was working at the ESSO Station, he drove up in a tank of a car, said "fill her up." I did and Phil said, "Charge that to Richard Pitts!" Then drove off. I went back inside and told Mr Pitts. Mr Pitts said "Oh, That’s Phil McGill, I'll take care of it." I didn't know Phil that well, but that memory has always stayed with me.

We always enjoyed our conversations with Phillip when we saw him at McDonalds. Our dear 90 year old friend who always enjoyed him as well was thrilled one morning when Phillip gave her a kiss!! She talked about it for weeks! She was struggling with dementia but she never forgot that kiss! She left us today to join her many friends in Heaven! I'm sure she will recognize Phillip when she sees him! Charles and I remember him fondly! Charles and Frances Painter

Rachel, Becky and Gay, I loved Phillip McGill and he always made me feel loved by him. I never saw him that I didn't get a big hug and always the sweetest words. I know it is an incredible loss for you all. I am thankful for knowing and loving him and your family for as long as I can remember. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

Phillip was a friend and strong supporter of my times as Councilman and Mayor. I pray God’s blessings upon his family during these trying times. I no longer can “get out” among the people I love so much, but am with all in spirit and respect. My family is grieving the loss of a good citizen and Veteran of the U.S. Navy.
