Obituary of Sam Peden
Please share a memory of Sam to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Samuel Peden, 65, husband of Lynn Goodwin Peden for 39 years, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.
Mr. Peden was born in Fountain Inn to the late John Robert Peden and Sara Weathers Peden. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and co-taught the Lilly Chapman Sunday School Class. He worked for 25 years at Palmetto Bank before joining Grand South Bank where he worked for over 20 years. Sam was an alumnus of Clemson University and a graduate of the South Carolina Bankers School. He served on the boards of Laurens County Water & Sewer Department, Laurens County Housing Authority, and Piedmont Mental Health. He was a member and past president of the Fountain Inn Rotary Club and served as the Chaplain for the Greenpond Volunteer Fire Department. He was a collector of knives and antique bottles and was a proud member of the Brim Masters Group. Sam loved being “PaPa” to his granddaughters.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons and their wives, Carroll and Becki Peden, and Garrett and Mary Fran Peden; a sister, Tammie Madden and husband Phillip; three granddaughters, Sarah Peden, Lorelai Peden and Heidi Peden; a brother-in-law, Chris Goodwin and wife Kim; a nephew, Clay Madden and wife Mary Margaret; and a niece, Katie Miles and husband Ashton.
