Obituary of Doug Anderson, MD

Dr. Douglas James Anderson, 71, husband of Gail Sawyer Anderson for 44 years, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 21, 2021. Dr. Anderson was born in Upper Darby Township, PA to the late James William Anderson and Irene Elizabeth Johnson Anderson. He was an alumnus of Emory University, the University of South Carolina, and the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Doug retired from St. Francis Hospital. Previously he practiced internal medicine in Tryon, NC; taught Public Health at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA; and was Director of the Center for Business and Occupational Medicine at the Columbus Regional Healthcare Center in Columbus, GA. Dr. Anderson was a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church, the Christian Medical Association, and the Creation Study Group. He enjoyed woodworking, puzzles and solitaire. He was a huge fan of all Philadelphia sporting teams. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, James Anderson and wife Kate; a daughter, Elizabeth Stansell and husband Chris; a sister, Eleanor Andrews; and a grandson, Damien Stansell. A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be 1 o’clock Saturday at Fellowship Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Marty Martin. Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park.
