Obituary of Russell Parrett

Russell Norman Parrett, 85 of Gray Court made his transition on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at home with his family by his side.

He was born in Chelmsford, Essex, England, son of Norman and Winifred Dyson Parrett. His family also lived in Jaipur, India and returned to England before emigrating from England to Stamford, Connecticut, in 1952.

Russell became a US citizen in 1959 and served with US Army Military Police from 1961 to 1967.

In 1966 he married Carole Germain (Gilmour), they had two daughters.

In 1985 Russell moved to Wilmington, NC, then to Gray Court, SC in 2019 to be closer to his family.

Russell enjoyed fishing, was an avid motor sports fan, skilled carpenter, and electrician. He is fondly remembered for camping trips with the family, building stage props for his granddaughter’s dance recitals, and installing many a sound system in his children and grandchildren’s vehicles.

He is survived by his daughters Darcy Parrett-Shubert and Gillian Parrett-Craven of Gray Court, brother Nicholas Parrett (Jane) of Norwalk, Connecticut, sister Jennifer Allen (David) of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Haley Craven, Caleb Parrett, Coletta Shubert, Joshua Shubert, Jonathan Shubert; great-grandchildren, Violet Hollis, Josiah Meadows, Elijah Meadows; and many dear relatives in Connecticut, North Carolina and Oregon and longtime friend Carole Gilmour.

The family would like to thank Crescent Hospice for their kind attention to his needs.

A memorial service with the family will be held at a later date.
