Chris, you were my best friend from 5th to 7th grade when you and your family lived in Omaha. There were so many times during the 2000s and 2010s when I thought about finding you, but I was afraid you wouldn't remember me. And going back down that road again, looking up where you are now, that's how I learned about this terrible thing that happened. So many times I've remembered funny things you said that revealed the empathy and wisdom you would later show to a very tired and dingy world. I never had another friend as unselfish and unafraid of showing love as you were. Especially with boys, it was so exceptional and so important to me. I'm so sorry that your family has had to endure this. But most of all, I am so sorry that you had to. You are someone I could never forget. Thank you for befriending me. I last saw you running out the door at school, so excited to go join your family on their next move. That was in 1992. But I still love you and always will.

Chris, brother we knew each other for a short period of time but we both felt like we've been friends for years. My brotha from anotha motha! You were super man my friend. I will miss our prayer calls and just laughing and talking about biking, bears and the slow life we both enjoy so much. We talked about it a lot but I am going to run a marathon in your honor very soon.
To The Family, you raised an amazing man! He loved his family and friends and was the most generous man I have ever met. Excellent friend, father and brother! My condolences are with you at this time. Much Love
-Hakim Singleton

Chris genuinely cared for others. While he was at the Center for Community Services he assisted individuals with many needs. I remember when he drove across town at night to a shelter to take a man to a job interview for a night shift position. No matter what time it was, he was there to help those who needed encouragement. He will be greatly missed.

My name is Rosa Liu. I am Assistant Director of Veterans Services at the University of Washington Bothell. Chris was one of my vets, yes, and he was also a very dear friend. When I think of him, I will always remember, regardless of how challenging his own life could be, he would always take care of everyone else. He loved his work. He loved his family, his friends, and he loved helping his fellow veterans.
I am so deeply saddened by this. Our world was so much better with Chris in it. This is an unfathomable loss. The universe has made a terrible mistake.
My love and deepest sympathies to his family and friends. We are all wrapping our arms around you in love and light. Soar high, Christopher. You will live on in our hearts.

Chris fought thru several illnesses, including a bout with blindness in order to qualify for military service. Once accepted, he became a soldier's soldier, qualifying as a Ranger and a master parachutist. He was on the adv party during the Iraqi war directing the strikes during the initial phase of the war. During his 5 tours in the Middle East, he contacted several diseases and illnesses, which he over came. During his service in the Middle East, Chris was field awarded at least 2 BSM's and several ARCOM's along with an Army Achievement medal. I am so very proud of Sgt Chris McRae, RIP Soldier.

I only began my friendship with Chris. He was an intern at work and had many plans in the works for helping others and especially his fellow veterans. Even though I only knew him a short time, as a veteran myself, I connected with him quickly. He will be greatly missed. His family and friends, as well as the mental health community, has lost a great man this week.
